Stavropoleos Church is a very old and beautiful church, located in the Old Center of Bucharest. The church, togheter with other buildings that formed a monastery were built in 1724 in the precinct of an inn and they were economically sustained by the inn. This was a common practice those times.
Unfortunately, time was not in favour of the inn or the buildings of the monastery and they were demolished at the end of 19th century. The church was saved but many earthquakes during the years weakened the structure of the church making the dome to collapse. At the beginning of the 20th century the dome paintings were restored.
In the past years, there were conducted works of restoration that made this church a beautifull landmark of the city that worth your visit. Since this is a worship place, please remember to dress conservatively.
